Some Thursday Snippets

  • I'm not ruling out a change from Blogger in the future, because of late the problems they've been experiencing seem to be getting worse. I hadn't been able to log in all morning to write an entry, and then there were the problems Michael was having last week with his disappearing and reappearing blog. The upside? Blogger and blogspot hosting is free.
  • My sweet friend Andrew F is moving his blog to another host at present, so his site is down for the next day or so. In the meantime, check out the gorgeous re-design he's done of the website for the Buddhist centre we both attend, Vajrayana Institute.
  • On the topic of things Buddhist, I discovered a gorgeous set of photographs taken at Kopan Monastery by a Flickr-ite called thecnote. Either this November, or next November, I intend to do the month long course of teachings and meditation at Kopan Monastery. Her lovely photographs have spurred me on even harder to start saving my pennies to go.

The Vajrayana Institute website re-design indeed looks great. A number of members at our centre recently updated the Sydney Buddhist Centre site, and I must say it also looks so much nicer.

In futher news, I turn exactly 5,000 days Sober and Clean today.

Thats 13 years, 8 months and 8 days for those of you trying to work that out. Five thousand days on this incredible spiritual journey, where not only have I put to rest the demons of addiction, but through which I have gradually awoken to somewhat of my true self. A spiritual blueprint first mapped out through AA and its 12-step program, and now overlaid and made ever so richer in recent years through my Buddhist practise. Along the way I have been helped by so many, some knew it and many did not. I have learnt one hell of a lot, and unlearnt even more.

I must admit even I am a little amazed at that figure. Not bad for someone who for many years could not go 24 hours without putting a drink or a drug in their system. Hell, for quite some years, at any given time I was never without some kind of drink or drug in my system.

I will be celebrating this little milestone tonight at my old AA homegroup. I have indeed been invited to speak as guest speaker at their Beginners Meeting. Its an honour, as always, and should be fun.

Getting your own domain and host costs a little, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. Tweaking the design is as much fun as writing a post and commenting, and there's not really any greater degree of geekiness required :)

Nice website for the VI, too; and congrats, Bodhi!

Now that I have been at this for nearly two years, it probably is time to do the domain thing... I mean, I think I've proved this is no fad I'm going to lose interest in. :-)

I agree, that really is quite some milestone Bodes. Well done! Mazel Tov!

Andrew F did a nice job on the redisgn didn't he? If you cklick through, each page has a different masthead and they are really lovely. The content is improved quite a bit too.

I'll have to ask you more about the VI next time we meet - but I am so not ready for meditation yet. Bodhi, I just couldn't get into it last year at the FWBO in Dublin...

Thanks guys.

Morgan, you do know that the very time you feel least like meditating, is the very time that you most need it?

I've had some experience teaching meditation at the Sydney Centre, and also led a weekly Meditation (Recovery) Group for two and a half years. I've had a daily practise now for quite some time. Happy to help you also if you are ever interested, just holla. Yeah, yeah, I know. You can lead a Morgan to a meditation hall, but you can't make him sit.

What-ever ;-)

I kinda like the old Zen joke, so I will leave you with that:

Don't just sit there, do nothing!

Doing nothing is probably the most difficult thing it's possible to do...

I know :-)

There are much easier alternatives though ...

Doing anything else? Thinking about doing nothing? Or just doing very little? :)

Thats right Morgan, you must have 'monkey mind'- when it is most difficult to sit.

Wow Bodhi that is simply super, and not a simple thing to do in the least. Have fun tonight sharing that good feeling around.

Also like the saying 'the child that least deserves your love, needs your love the most' something like that was it Erma Bombeck?

TOA you really are a hit arent you - the stats are freaky. Imagine all the people....it is gorgeous, gorgeous :)

Hey where is worldpeace and aspeedboat? i think i know how almost everyone looks except you..

I may have to become 60's girl because typing quintessential requires effort after the nightshift, or with a Q preceeding.

LOL at Morgan. Funny monkey-mind boy :-)
That would be easier meditation alternatives ...

60's Girl, thanks sweetie darling sweetie.
