Saturday part two.
After lunch at the beach, James and I made the trek to Mary-Helen and Sandra's newly improved and expanded home for a housewarming party. A trek that included getting a bit lost, and quite a bit more sunburned. James has already made mention on his blog of the various tribes that interconnected at the party. The Venn Diagram of knitters/bloggers/friends/work colleagues that made up the guests.
It was amusing to me to be introduced to people and to hear a few minor variations on the statement "So, you're not one of the knitters ho-ho." posed. Well, yes I am... but not only. (I'm also in the Venn Diagram where knitter, blogger and friend intersect.) Male knitters are still off most people's radar, but I'm really quite fine with that. I like seeing how people react. Of course Mark was there also, who was representing the even rarer breed. Straight Male Knitter.
The party was lots of fun. I met some new people, spent as much time as possible keeping my ever pinkening skin out of the sun, ate waaaay too much barbecue and dessert, drank wine, chatted to friends and developed a series case of Real Estate Envy at the extensions and renovations Mary-Helen and Sandra have done to their home.
Afternoon drew on into evening and at about 9pm Kris suggested we head back to their house for to play Guitar Hero on their Wii. Now, I'm not much of a one for computer games. Sometime after Pong and Space Invaders my interest waned, with a brief blip when I discovered the smiting fun of Diablo on Mikey (the lovely ex's) old computer. But, well, Wii is a whole different kettle of crazy bleep bloopy fish. I'm a convert.
So we rocked it out to Guitar Hero. OMG so much fun! I saved everyone the exquisite torture (and not in a good way) of hearing me sing, and stuck to paying bass guitar. Plus, given that the game tracks your ballpark pitch I really don't need that kind of judging. I know I'm flatter than a lizard drinking thank you, Judgy McJudgerton.
What I didn't know though was I'm kind of a natural on bass. Well, as a first timer on a small plastic bass with buttons instead of strings that is. By the second of Snook's homebrews things started to run off the rails a little, but I was Suzy Quatro at her peak while it lasted. (My run that is, hers has lasted considerably longer.) Once you get the hang of the button placement and how much delay/anticipation you need to hit the notes, the rest is rhythm. And can I just say, one thing I've got in spades is rhythm. You know it's true!

They're Creepy & They're Spooky...
Last night was Web-Goddess & The Snook's 6th annual Halloween bash, and the third year that I've attended. So much fun! Web-Goddess & The Snook (aka Kris and Rodd) looked fantastic as Lucy & Charlie Brown. (Kris even the knit the jumper Rodd is wearing.) I took along James, who was dressed as a bogan styled Wicked Witch Of The Westie ("yes, it's a costume") and he had a great time too.
Kris and Rodd always go to heaps of effort with the food and decorations, which really sets the mood. As does the presence of gen-u-ine Americans! I mentioned before that Halloween isn't really a big thing here in Oz, but it's great to participate with people have a real joy and tradition of Halloween.
Finn and Bex looked amazing as Sweeney Todd & Mrs Lovett. (Note to self, don't eat the pies.)
Amy as the original Caribou Barbie(TM), Mrs Sarah Palin. (Note the tail). She's gunning for YOU.
Braaaaaains. Peach pannacotta never looked so smart.
Amy Whinehouse gets stuck in. Reecie's performance was very 'method'.
Charlie Brown tackles The Giant Tim-Tam. Giant Tim-Tam loses. Nom nom.
I went as Nearly Headless Nick from Harry Potter, in a grey Elizabethan costume I made years ago (photos to come). I was looking for grey make-up or body paint, but unable to find any I settled on a pearlescent silvery color. So not flattering (and now I know how Brent Spiner felt), but with a bloody red stripe across my neck and white spray in my hair I looked sufficiently ghosty.
The party wound up around 1am and then it was time to wander home, having had a great night!

The "Chrissie Pissie" 2007
As I described last year, the Chrissie Pissie is an annual event where our extended group of friends (more like family really) get together to eat, laugh, celebrate, catch up with each other's lives (if we haven't seen each other for a while), drink and exchange anonymous $15 crap/fabulous gifts. It's tradition. It's fabulous. It's something I wouldn't miss for the world. Over the past 3 or so years a number of my friends have had children, so the presence of little ones underfoot may have meant less late evening drunkenness, but it has add a wonderful new dimension.
(For some reason the photos in last year's blog entry won't display on my screen, if that's the same with you then the photos from last year can be seen in this Flickr set.)

Wonderland
This weekend was so amazing, so full of laughter, excitement, time with friends, new possibilities, and good times that I need to break it down into manageable chunks. Into installments. Even just to fully process it, let alone write about it. Here's a little bit about Saturday. The day began with a flying visit to see my friend Spyder and help celebrate her son AJ's 3rd birthday. Spyder now lives in Melbourne, so I don't get to see her anywhere near enough, but we'd already made arrangements for a certain lovely lady's birthday party before I knew Spyder was going to be in town. So after popping in to see AJ we headed on over to Linda's party.

Saturday was Linda's birthday party, and even though it was a grey and rainy day which meant changing Linda's original plan for a picnic, we were able to relocate everything to our beloved Green Park Hotel, and so "Alice" got her "Madhatter's Tea Party" after all.
It was a wonderful afternoon, with lots of laughter, yummy nibbly bits and champers. Lots of champers. We started at 1.30, and I think it was about 8pm when we staggered and rolled walked out of there. Everyone had a great time, and the hotel very kindly let us do our own thing and basically take over a huge chunk of their space for the afternoon.
