Patterned exterior on a residence in Lewisham. Done with a patterned paint roller to simulate wallpaper, I remember these from the '70s. The results were pretty crap, even then...

Quite. :-)

Hideous, IMHO.

Do you get people here who deliberately coat their house with fake "real stone effect" cladding, just to look different from the neighbours?

Makes me wish I'd taken a picture of the house near where I used to live in Dublin with the 3D plaster mural of Mother Teresa, rococo window detailing and Roman urns at the gate.

They all kind of scream "straight people with no taste live here".

(Gay people with no taste seem to have statues of David or the Brussels Manneken Pis in their gardens. Yuk.)

Should've said gay _men_ I suppose

I've seen a few houses with fake stone, it was more of a 70's thing too I think. Fortunately not so common! There is a style of cladding called Basket Range (I don't know why) that was popular in Adelaide where I grew up. Made of striated sandstone that is laid in a sort of 'crazy' pattern, with raised grout in between. Not so nice.

My God, I need to see that house in Dublin! Sounds fabtastic! Can you tell I love kitsch?

When I was growing up I remember some friends of the family had this David replica at their house. Though in their defence it was not situated in the garden, and it was at least in real white marble. Finely crafted, hard, smooth to the touch, lustrous marble ...

I had an untold fascination with it, I must say. Much like my intense interest in Bo Duke (and those pants) from The Dukes of Hazard, really.

But that's another story ...

Anyhoo, Daves a hottie. I heart Dave. Nothin' wrong with Davo.

...ohn no, I am having serious flash backs reading this post. Imagine early 70's and wallpaper in a similar design to you pink house, but it was brown velvet relief designs on beige (very touchy feely). I have never gotten over it. I am sure my mother is/was possessed. She was stuck somewhere between Roccocco and Borouque in interior design....and we also had statues of David and fountains in the yard. What the hell does that make her?
(Iknow it made me into the fruitcake that I am)

arghhhh ,I think I need a Bex and a lie down now.

TOA, you and I know someone with a Statue of David in their backyard...
I think the wall treatment is cool. Very ahem... Florence Broadhurst.

Flocked wallpaper! I heart flocked wallpaper!

My problem with "David" is that he disproves the Big Hands & Big Feet rule that I have always held in such high esteem. I mean, could that winkle be any tinier?

The Other Andrew said...

Who has a David in their back yard?....

Miss Eudoxia said...

....in the words of my ex....David Statue could be in possession of a "combat version". Tiny when not needed, kept neat and out of the way, but then when things start to happen.........

Bodhi said...

Strangely enough, the small winkle was something that never bothered me when it came to David. Always has to be one exception with everything, I suppose.

Which kind of reminds me of this one time ( ... in band camp. Nah *giggle*) when I was alone for a while in said house. It was a hot summer day, I was a horny young teenager, and that marbled muscle definition was getting to me in alluring ways. Lets just say that I turned that statue around, got myself comfortable, and gazed up at that back, butt and incredible thighs. Lets just say that after taking matters into my own hands, the outcome was, errr, explosive.

::blink::

Ummm, too much information?

The Other Andrew said...

Yes, way too much. :-)

Michelangelo would be thrilled.

My grandmother still has some velvety dark maroon flocked wallpaper. Thankfully only in one alcove of her living room.

Looking at it now (well, last year anyway), I used to wonder how we didn't get cross-eyed or migraines spending time in the room when _every_ wall was like that.

I have a David fridge magnet, btw. And some swimwear and gym wear that I can add or remove, as my mood takes me...

Er, hmm, I suppose that means that I have a tacky taste in fridge magnets.

I hope my tackiness is limited to there.

Bodhi said...

Add or remove swim wear or gym wear as the mood takes, you say Morgan?

Nah, works for moi sweetie. I don't think that's tacky at all.

Well .... as long as the fridge surface is easy clean, that is.

;-)

Miss Eudoxia said...

Why does EVERY gay boy house I visit have such fridge magnets????

Should TOA be thinking of renaming this blog the "over disclosing" blog? Thank you for sharing that with us Bodhi.....if I ever meet you, you will understand why I keep looking at you, err, oddly,as I remember these gems you share :-)

Bodhi said...

Andrew and I don't have such magnets on our fridge in the ever-gay house we share , Miss E.

But then again, who needs quirky camp magnets when one has moi.

As to odd looks, get in line sweetie. Get in line.

Miss Eudoxia said...

I think you need magnets for christmas.....hmmm, the queen of tackiness will come up with a lovely stocking (fishnet of course) for you boys :-)

now if only i could finish the tacky decortins we started in the bathroom here.....

Look whatyou have done TOA with all this tacky talk....

Bodhi said...

The Other Andrew said...

Miss Eudoxia said...

The Other Andrew said...

So you're saying I should never underestimate the weirdness of my readers? Am I reading that right?

Oh-kay.

:-) You know I love each and every one of you, right? Good.

Miss Eudoxia said...

Lets face it TOA, woudl you love us if we were normal??

The Other Andrew said...

Probably not so much.

Anonymous said...

Does normal mean that we should decorate the outside of our houses with simulated wallpaper?

Bodhi said...

Personally, I always thought that normal was a cycle on a washing machine.
