Thunderbolt And Lightning. Very, Very Frightening Me.

Dear Queen,
(the band, not the person... or persons),
As entertaining as "Bohemian Rhapsody" is, I think you'll find that it's actually lightning bolts and thunder claps. I mean, "thunderbolt"? Oh, and maybe "very, very frightening TO me" would be a sentence worth your consideration.
Cordially, TOA.

It has been raining on and off for most of the day here today, with storms forecast. A short while ago, completely without warning, there was a lightning flash and simultaneous humungous crash of thunder. Louder than I have ever heard before, and closely followed by flickering electricity, and various building and car alarms. Yup, I think the building scored a direct hit.

It was enough to make me exclaim Fuck! at the top of my lungs, let me tell you.

I wonder what the good Christians here at The Big Christian Charity that I work for have to make of that? I think we just got smited*. I don't care what they say, I am NOT taking the blame for this. Not this time.

* Smote? Smitten?

I don't want to sit in the rain in the the courtyard, but I want to go to the LGBTQA-Z blogger meetup. Since gays can now cause earthquakes

I believe a little clap of thunder is well within our power.

Thombeau, word.

M-H, now, now, where's your stamina? A good New Zealand girl like yourself surely isn't afraid of a little precipitation?! I've been to NZ many times, it's almost like you guys INVENTED rain. (Also, the table is under cover.)

Riayn, true!

Stamina? Huh? ::searches self carefully...:: ah, here it is. You're right, I'll just pull it on and then I'll be fine. See you in an hour or so!

Cool. See you then, then.

I suspect that given the florid nature of the song, I expect the reference to "thunderbolts" was meant to be evocative of Zeus' godly thunderbolts with which he SMOTE those who upset him. Given the punishment the song's narrator is about to undergo, I suspect they considered the Zeus reference appropriate.

I have long advocated the use of "smoted." :)

And I agree, the thunder on Tuesday was the loudest I have ever heard in my life.

I doubt very much that it was the gays but we had a minor earthquake here on Wednesday:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7266136.stm

Only lasted 10 seconds but it was damned scary for a few of those seconds as I watched a 2 metre-high Ikea bookcase laden with art books and surmounted by a cast-iron office typewriter shake violently from side to side. Made me reconsider my daydreams of one day moving to California!

Geez, glad to hear you're alright. I guess that's why the IKEA instructions are so manic about 'furniture must be fixed to the wall'. Not that anybody ever does! (Yes, I read the instructions.)

Ah, no need to fix it to the wall, after all, we don't have earthquakes here, do we? Hmm....
