Fry Me An Egg

Someone, anyone, needs to tell me how to fix my freakin' insomnia or I swear I am about to wig out. Like walk down the street with a fried egg on my head, praising the extraterrestrials that just probed my ass whilst wearing a floral print sundress type nuts.

Ok, that's an exaggeration - I prefer poached eggs.

Just let me sleep through one night without waking up. One. Night. Too much to ask? I don't think so. Yes I've tried herbs, yes recently I've been exercising more, no I don't feel like I'm worrying about anything in particular (except global warming, my waistline, my hairline, my finances, the withdrawal of troups from Iraq, the Sudoku I'm working on, the children the poor defenceless children, whether Courtney will win the Biggest Loser...).

I rejoice in every night I get to sleep undisturbed... But at least I know the reason and I asked for him.

Sleep deprivation is total hell... at least for the first 4 weeks. You may just adapt to less sleep. I hope this is just a phase for you.

I used to work with an odd guy who said he had a habit of waking up at 4am. So he just decided to go with that and his day started when he woke up. Luckily he could work odd hours and left work early too.

I guess he didn't get out much at night though.

ohhh Andamarooo... such a long standing problem...

I have the odd sleepless night and that's enough to drive me bonkers, but it's usually because I go to bed too late and miss 'the window', or I have too much on my mind. any disturbances The Dinghy causes can be made up for with a bit of a nap (not that I sleep so well during the day...).

I have heard good things about hynotherapy being helpful. a thought?

I don't know why you don't just go the egg and dress option, it might help ;-)

It's bad at the moment, I'm waking up anywhere up to half a dozen times a night or more. I should start babysitting newborns, right? I mean, if I'm going to be awake anyway...

Andrew, I suspect you’re far from alone here. My gut feeling, based on interactions with clients the last few days, is that this is affecting the whole city.

The change from El Niño to El Niña conditions over the last week will have been an important contributor. There’s the direct effect of the weather change on mood, and there’s also the indirect effect of the unusual weather change (drought to non-drought) stirring up dormant bacteria and viruses in the soil — an epidemiologist once told me these indirect effects are a lot more important than we realise.

Mind you, a psychiatrist once told me that Sydney is the moodiest city he’s ever known. Everywhere else, he'd get patients in a mix of states every day. In Sydney, though, it was either everyone up or everyone down.

Aw, Andrew. I can't give you any advice that's different from everything I see online. The past few nights have been bad for me, too, especially last night when I woke up about six times. At one point I woke up in the middle of a dream about Helen Mirren. I was really sad about waking up during that one.

I'll second what Stilgherrian said - I've also had pretty bad sleeps the past few nights.

*shakes fist at La Niña*

I know a few people who subscribe to the theory that if you're sleeping badly you're just under-medicated.

So tonight wash four sleeping pills down with a halfjack of scotch. I got ten bucks right here says you'll only wake up on Sunday from that one :-)

So, climate change may be messing with my sleep? ::shakes fist::

Laubscher, I might pass on the pills/booze combo, but a drink would be good right about now. Boring day. :(

wow, I'll third the crappy sleeping in the past few days, but I blamed ME!

::shakes fist::

take that La Nina!

Do you have a window at work, Andrew?

The Other Andrew said...

Yes, Michael. Thankfully it's a ground floor office so I can't jump out of it.

You need a shag, baby...or do what I do when I can't sleep (and there's nobody around to help out): Touch myself....down there.

I'd help a brotha out, if you didn't live so far away...good luck!

That's sweet Christopher. You're a giver! :) Actually I have a shag lined up for this evening, so fingers crossed it turns out to be therapuetic...

I love the image of you penciling it in.

Keith, some things are worth diairisng, let's face it. Plus, suffice to say that I normally have a fantastic time with this particular chap, so I considered writing it in my diary in neon!

What? Oh, you thought I was talking about writing it down.
