Times Have Changed

I saw this faded old ad the other day...

Responsible Advertising

...and was actually quite shocked and had to do a double-take.

I mean, I initially thought it said Salem: The shortest route to emphysema.

My dad smoked Salems all through my misspent youth. The ad doesn't exactly make me feel nostalgic, though. In my head, the Salems are too intimately associated with benign neglect.

Misspent youth? So this isn't a new thing then?...

I can't quite believe it's survived for so long... where is it, TOA?

Smoked the lights. then switched to marlboro menthol lights. then quit. quitting is best.

I quit smoking when The Kid was born, which is 16 years ago now. I took to it with gusto, just like all my other addictions. At my worse, I smoked three packs a day. Oral fixation, sucking on a fag, do I really need to explain? Anyhoo, first there was JPS, then Dunhill, and at the end I smoked Cartier. Oh shut-up bitches.

Don't miss it at all, to be honest. Although I must admit that a few times a year I do enjoy a leisurely cigar. Nothing like suckin' on a fat Cuban with my boy Rabbit ;-)

PS. Ahhhhhhh, misspent youth ... those were the days .. if only I could remember most of it ...

Haha, Bodhi, if I had to pick three cigarette brands for you, that would be them! Hilarity.

Speedy, I meant to answer your question... it's on King St South in Newtown. It's by a building demolition, so maybe it was covered up before now? I don't recall seeing it before, but it has obviously been there for ages.
