Things That Make You Go "Yay!"

  • My friends Daen and Adrienne had a baby boy on Wednesday, welcome to the world Oliver Waters-Ekkers!
  • I caught up with friends I hadn't seen in ages on Wednesday night. A couple of them are from my old home town, and we have known each other for years. If you have any interest in the pop group ABBA, go check out their little home on the web.
  • One of my favourite blog reads from way back when is back, the wonderful Johnny A Go Go.
  • In about 40 minutes of shopping last night I bought 3 Christmas gifts, which was pretty quick and relatively painless. It's looking like it's going to be A Very DVD Christmas so far.
  • I bought her fabulous looking "Holiday Cookies" special issue magazine, and I'm going to try a few of the recipes this weekend. Oh sure, you laugh now but it'll be a different story when your face is crammed full of Lime Meltaways!

only one K in Ekers... and my he's a big boy apparently!

the Abba boys must be the ones I bought my sheets of Abba stickers from at the Unicorn. oh the heady nights of Abba funness... and a good friend of mine and his boy, who met at Frida's birthday night about 14yrs ago are still together! so sweet.

That'd be the same boys, my friend Graeme used to DJ the ABBA nights at the Unicorn, and later the Flinders, I think. (I know he certainly did some of the nights at the Flinders.) One of the guys I had drinks with used to specialise in doing Frida in drag. Who's your friend, I might know them?...

I just spoke Adrienne and yes, big boy apparently. I'm going to try and get in and see them tonight.

You're not the only one... it's looking like an all singing, all dancing DVD Christmas here too...

Do you get her new show there? As I blogged, I watched her making a savory soup with Il Divo and she has the most horrific interview/ad lib skills. Stay scripted, dear.

Particularly when you have to travel quite a distance, DVDs are nice and easy to fit into your suitcase too. I managed to get a couple of quite expensive boxed sets on sale (thank you JB Hi Fi!) which my sister and brother-in-law wanted. Score. My other brother-in-law (ie, his brother - only one of my sisters is married) is a big 'mo and i might get him and his boyfriend some DVDs too... not sure.

I don't think we get Martha's show here, maybe on cable. Cable in Oz is quite crap, and expensive, but even still I just know that if I subscribed to it I'd never leave the house. How on Earth did you even notice her when Il Divo where on screen?... One of them is my new husband, guess which.

I made Martha's coconut bars last night. Very nice, and easy. I don't like anything too overly sweet, so I modified the mixture by adding the juice and grated zest of a lime at the end. Gives it just a hint of zing.

TOA - do you mean the Frida artiste who actually looks more like Frida than Frida does? and more like a woman than a woman does? shortish, petite, fine features... man, she was bloody good. when she wore the short spiky hair and gold-lame-ruffles-around-the-neck number it was v impressive.

I remember being at a fundraising dance at the leichardt town hall when she and some of her friends walked in. they immediately made most/all of the genetically female straight women like me feel like a bricklayer in drag ;)
