Other Weekend Snippets

  • Those biscuits of Martha's that I mentioned I was going to make? They rocked. I decided to add some lime zest and juice to the Chewy Coconut Bars to cut the sweetness, and I had to up the flour quantity in the Lime Meltaways (but I was converting from Imperial to metric and halving the quantity, so the mistake was possibly mine) but the end results were great. Next time I'll add even more lime to the Meltaways I think, but they were still very nice. (My co-workers can vouch for that, they descended on the left-overs like a bunch of Gannets.)
  • I was happy to find the movie The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy on the shelf at a local DVD store, it has been hard to get and listed as 'unavailable' on DVD websites for ages. I was so happy that I watched it 3 times over the weekend. (Here are some cast photos from the premiere in 2000. I heart Justin Theroux btw.)
  • If you are in Australia and didn't watch the Christmas special episode of Spicks & Specks last night, well shame on you. I almost peed my self a bit, I was laughing so hard. I've mentioned before that I have a "thing" for the host Adam Hills, and it was only fuelled further by watching him snog Hamish Blake on the show, even if was just to get a laugh. On a sad note, gosh Belinda Emmett was looking frail.

I heart the Broken Hearts Club too TOA, and The Kid and I watched it twice on the weekend.

Just so you know and are kept in the loop, we have both decided to regularly use the following two quotes from the movie:

'Homo said what?' - Suitable for all occasions.

'I'll have a double steroid moccha' - To be used at cafe's when cute gym bunny is spotted.

And by the way ... Dean Cain .... I mean, hello! He's super, thanks for asking. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering what to get The Kid for Xmas, I'm pretty sure that Andrew Keegan under her tree on Xmas morning would make her very happy indeed. She's such a twink magnet fag hag (I'm soooo proud, and yet strangely jealous all at the same time).

Hi Sam,
it's a shame you missed it, it was really very funny. Maybe they'll bring it out on DVD, or repeat it, or something. If they repeat it, try and catch it. I love the show anyway, but this episode was even funnier.

Bodhi,
I'm sorry, homo say what?

I was wondering when you would get around to posting about the Adam-on-Hamish action Andrew... yep... I have a big ol thing for Hamish... so I was quite happy about that too...

Now all we need is someone with screen caps... hehehe

And would you feel the same way about Adam if I told you that his major fetish is having sex with Rubeneske women who keep their high heels on.... seriously...

yaniboy,
I can understand your thing for Hamish Blake, he's quite a cutie. He's one of the funnier conedians they have on the show, I really like him too. Very quick, a natural comedian rather than someone who just tells set jokes.

If I don't reign in the eating over Christmas I could be Rubenesque myself by New Year... although I pass on the high heels. (Surprised by that?)

don't you still have a pair of heels in the closet from the Rocky Horror days?

bahhumbug, I missed Spicks'n'Specks too. they'd better repeat it!

No, those heels went long ago. Shame, they were pretty cool. Platforms that I painted black and stuck sequins and rhinestones on - a la Frank N Furter.

The Broken Hearts Club is one of my favorites, mainly because it is one of the ONLY good movies that is about being gay. (I know there are others, but trust me, many of them are bad!)

I find "Broken Hearts Club" funny and charming, and to some degree relate with the friendships. Duane, you might like a film called "All Over The Guy" if you like this. It's a cute film too.

... and Later Days, and Summer Storm (Sommersturm), and Camp :-)

Summer Storm was so good... I just wish I'd seen it all (my second ever blog post chronicled actually that little childhood trauma)... but if it shows up anywhere on Region 4 DVD I'm all over it...

Some of my other personal faves include:

Torch Song Trilogy (yeah, I know, but it's the first gay movie I ever saw)

Beautiful Thing

Boys Life (three short stories, but I really liked it)

I own Broken Hearts Club, but have only watched it once... it was all a bit too "perfect" if memory serves, and I just didn't love it so much... maybe I need to revisit it at some stage...

Yaniboy,

Summer Storm is being released on Region 4 in January 2006. It can be ordered through http://www.outdvd.com.au , and according to their site the release date is January 25. The day before Brokeback Mountain opens in the cinema's.

Yaaaaaayy! That will be a good week :-)
