Worth Every Cent Of 2 Bucks

I went to a big charity book sale on the weekend, a big hall filled with trestle table after trestle table of second hand books. It got to be a bit overwhelming pretty quickly, I mean after I had looked carefully at a few tables I started sort of skimming along, you know. I'm sure I missed some real treasures.

Naturally I made a beeline for the Craft & Hobbies section, to see what gems might be on offer. Treasures were precious few, but there was at least one. And at only $2! (Marked down from $3.)

Selected Highlights From "The Women's Weekly 'Best Ever' Knitting Book" 1978.

Got a troublesome naked Cocky? Keep them snug and restrained in this pretty cardigan/straight jacket combo.

Glamour for bed. The sort of glamour that says "This office is closed for business".

Designs to suit every decor!

Tell him to throw out all his old tabards. Start your divorce in style and be sure he stays single, with this snazzy new tabard!

We know someone with a budgie - perhaps you could scale the pattern down? And I must share with you my pattern book of 'knitted historical figures'.

Maybe is we shifted to a laceweight yarn and teeny needles.... but then we'd be the ones that needed the straight jacket.

Knitted historical figures!? Oh, precious. Is there an Anne Boleyn with detachable head?

FG, I had to smile when I bought the Vogue Knitting holiday edition magazine, and there was an upholstered chair by Nicky Epstein in it! (Tasteful though. A design of knitted roses that is then felted and used as uphosltery.)

What new hell is this?! Tabards! With flat caps, yet!

I thought I'd plumbed the depths of Seventies' fashion nightmare before now but it's pretty obvious that knitwear catalogues are the last redoubt of woollen iniquity!

I can't get over the designation of "new" for the tabard. Like someone has worn out their old tabard and is counting the seconds until a friend knits a new one.

tabard is my new word; i never stop learning here at TOA.

John, there are a lot of pretty tricky fashions from the 70s, but knitting seems to have had some particularly dubious episodes! mind you, the tabard has always been a specialist item. Normally the preserve of wandering minstrals and Ye Olde theme dinner restaurants.

Ur-spo, first the Australian political system and now tabards! TOA is educational.

Not yet, but with a bit of adaptation, I'm sure we could manage it.
