Start The Day With A Faceplant!

I was rushing up my street to the train yesterday, and misjudged my footing. I kind of stumbled into a depression at the base of a tree, tried to right myself, and overbalanced. My momentum carried me forward enough that I then did a classic and spectacular faceplant right onto the asphalt footpath. Glamorous!

I took the brunt of the fall on my left knee and the heels of both palms, an automatic manoeuver designed to save my pretty, pretty face. (Otherwise it would have been good bye international modelling career! Close call, don't you think?) The nice man walking in front of me rushed gallantly to my assistance, which was very sweet. You can sometimes depend on the kindness of strangers.

My knee is a bit banged up and still hurts a wee bit. Thankfully my pants weren't torn. Save the fashion! Let me tell you though, you think carpet burns on your knees are a bitch? Or that tiny cigar burn on the inner thigh smarts, the one where Big Daddy forgot himself for a moment? Try gravel rash on both palms. It's not much to look at, just some redness, scrapes and small cuts on both palms. Makes wanking some normally pleasant tasks a less pleasurable experience.

It's a fine line between pleasure and pain.

Andrew, you could have had tragic circumstances! About 6-weeks ago I happened upon a rather large woman --someone I've seen in the neighborhood-- face down on the sidewalk, crying for help. You'd be surprised that TWO men walked around her blood pool in their haste to not get involved.

Naturally I called emergency services. I am the first one to faint at the sight of blood but I managed to keep myself together in keeping her lucid and calm till the med techs arrived. She basically tripped on an uneven bit of pavement. Her face took the full brunt of her fall. I can honestly state that her nose was flattened against her face...blood everywhere. Weeks later I ran into her and though she was bandaged about the nose (broken) she thanked me profusely for "being there" for her when she needed help.

I didn't blog about it; I note it here only to state how close you came to a major bit of recovery time had you not broken your fall. YOU could have snapped both wrists as well! I am happy that you are okay. That bit of wanking will just have to wait. Let the healing begin.

Thanks MG! I was so glad that the chap ahead of me stopped to see if I was ok. I was, let's face it my dignity was as wounded as anything else. If I was really injured I would like to have thought that someone would have stopped!

I'm glad you're a good samaritan.

dear me!
well I am glad it wasn't worse.
When you fell, did you think "oh, this will go in my blog?"

Hah! I was sort of thinking "oh, this isn't good" as I toppled, but I'll admit it was less than a few minutes before I thought about blogging it...

What can I say? The eternal search for material!

Having done the exact same thing on more than one occasion (and having demolished at least two pairs of pants doing it), I can completely sympathise... now all you need is somebody to kiss the boo-boos better ;)

Oh, honey, I have so totally been there! On a regular basis, I might add. But remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, or something like that.

All these comments about falling over (whether sober or not so) remind me of Justin Bond's fabulous line in Shortbus:

"I used to want to change the world. Now all I want to do is leave the room with a little dignity..."

This kinda reminds me of when I was very sick several years ago and fell over with my shopping bags returning from the supermarket. I felt like such a "Nanna". But it was great that people came to assist.

Hope you are well, and feeling better and not too sore. I am sad to say these things happen and when they do happen to me, I my first thoughts are:
(1) Am I dead?
(2) I hope nobody saw me do that.

Try to remember, especially as one grows older -- gravity is not your friend.
