Denying Being Closeted Is The New Black

Neil Patrick Harris comes out in a fabulously self-loathing-free statement of fact. Yay! Well done Doogie.

wow, well done indeed. sounds like a lovely person. I wonder if he wrote that, or his publicist? I don't actually mean that as a cynical question at all, either. if they are his words then he sounds like a very genuine person, and if they were written for him, then he still must be a dude to have agreed to them. if you know what I mean? very nice either way.

Yes. It is refreshing. I was struck by his frankness and lack of spin. It read 'normal' to me. And I only use the term to equate how effortless and 'no big deal' someone's sexuality should be in today's world. We stand on the cusp of nuclear holocaust and still have time to worry about 'who' is doing 'what' behind closed doors as consenting adults. It's sad commentary, really.

Speedy, I doubt it was his publicist, seeing as how, following rumours, two days before Doogie's announcement, his publicist had declared "he's not of that persuasion"... It was the publicist's announcement that prompted him to out himself. I agree, though, nicely handled by the doogster.

Yeah, Mikey is right. The publicist tried to spin a story that Harris had a bf by saying "he's not of that persuasion" and so Harris has responded with "well, actually..."

Good on him.

did the article say that about his publicist? I didn't actually read that bit. good for Doogie for having the integrity to not hide behind the words of others, as many people have. dude!

btw don't you just love the word 'persuasion'? makes me giggle. hello, Andrew, could I persuade you to be straight? do ya good ;-)

Speedy, a few blogs like Gawker, Defamer and Towleroad followed the story from the get-go, befor Harris's outing. It made for entertaining reading.

OMG, I love that Go Fug Yourself link! Hysterical. Thanks!

I find it sad, and a bit silly that people still have to 'come out' like sexuality should be a big deal.
