That would have given me a stroke.

On Easter I saw a wine bottle on the table that had an typo. Come on people, how difficult is it to just LOOK IT UP?

Rant over.

ahh freak girl you have made a few very bad assumptions....
1 - they know what a dictionary is
2 - they know how to use one
3 - they care
4 - they realise that they don't know how to spell.

Years of tutoring kids (and now seeing my mates at Uni)has made me realise that if you choose to not read (and most choose to sit and watch TV instead)then you don't know what words are. You know the sounds but not what they look like or how they are spelt, or what they mean for that matter. Schools aren't helping much (don't start me). Add into the equation a callous disregard for your fellow neighbours (see TOA's previous post)and authority and you have met the majority of the younger generation.

Oh dear, I will step off my soap box now and get back to operating on something......

FG, I think you and I are on a similar wavelength. Oh, and I'm still scratching my ahead about the "Kid's Play To They Win" signs, because they were everywhere. (Both with and without the extraneous apostrophe.)

Miss E, I think you are right too. When you read a lot you can at least become familiar with words and more likely to spot it when a word doesn't look right. You might need to look up the correct spelling, but spotting that something isn't right is the important first step.

Good point, miss edoxia. I assume everyone cares, and it's obvious they don't! Glad to be around people who do.

Andrew, I can even let that "Kid's Play To They Win" thing slide, because it looks like perhaps it was being translated into English or something. I don't know. Perhaps I am being too kind. ;)

Agreed its some translation stuff up. But literacy and emotional depth are lacking. Kids are odd. The very few friends mine have are 'normal'. Most seem to be failing to thrive physically (that gets us onto a nutritional basis) and you wonder if they all live under powerlines or something. Others seem to lack good common sense, actual empathy, foresight, consequence, sense of humour, vocabulary that has real meaning, motivation - oh i could go on. And we see the middle generation emerging in the hospitals - quite clueless. Actually the lack of people helping people reminds me of a 2 year old who drowned at a public waterway. She was pulled under by her party dress and as she still floated face down under a bridge my friend told me the security footage showed a man look over the bridge at her, look frantically around and then (no not grab her) he ran. A further 5 minutes elapsed till she was found!! Sorry i'm back there again. Oops...

Tis an unfortunate state of affairs that someone can be paid to make the words look so good and so bad at the same time. Perhaps there is a subtle pun in there, and they were really thinking about all the children playing. With a little poetic license, it could read "beginers are whiners".
