Surely after the terrible, awful, shockly bad Nemesis, he can only do a good job of producing a Star Trek movie that is actually watchable. :-) Live long and prosper!
"Nemesis" wasn't my favourite by a long shot, but I thought it wasn't as much of a turkey as one or two of the others. The potential to get the 'early Spock' and 'early Kirk' horribly wrong is a little daunting though. Imagine trying to cast a young Shatner? It'll be interesting to see how they handle the design of it as well, will they try and match it to the look of the first Star Trek, or just take it in a whole other direction like "Enterprise" did?
Mr. Spock had pointy ears and was from the planet Vulcan.
It's also the one that 'Beam my up Scottie' comes from (although Captain Kirk and the other regular crew members never actually said that to Chief Enginneer Mr. Scott;-).
I have to tell you I am completely excited about this too!!! JJ Abrams rocks, and he will totally do it right. Nemesis was fine, but I think it was either the odd or even film (one of the two always tanks), so what could they really expect? Star Trek is cool!

I happily give Star Trek movies a miss. Just about any two-episode story in TNG, DS9 or Voyager is better than any of the movies, IMHO.
"Because I am a Massive Nerd"
Affirmative, Captain.
I know as much about Star Trek as i do about cricket - however is this the one with the guy with the pointy ears?
Yes.

I'd LOVE to see more Voyager too. But I'll take anything Star Trek. Anything.
Word, Amy. I love the original series and Voyager best.

Indeed. I can just hear the screams of thousands of slash-fiction writing housewives if they get the casting "wrong".
