Plus, today was my deadline to get it into a courier bag and sent off to my family in Victoria, so it was a pretty tight deadline. I've been working on a sleep debt all week so once it got to be late enough that my eyes were crossing from tiredness, I figured it was time to be done with the knitting bit and start blocking it.
So I cast it off, washed it and pinned it out to block into shape. It's not really until you get to this last step of stretching it to dry into shape that knitted lace really comes alive, everything neatens and opens up, and you look at it and think "wow, I made that!".
I hope she likes it!

Interestingly, with all this talk of blocking and stretching and whatnot, I found myself wondering what it looked like before all the knitting related pin bondage... ;)

Yani, what she said. :) The blocking is just like giving it a good press, but because of wool's unique qualities once dried it tends to hold that blocked shape. Although it does 'relax' a bit.

Wow wow wow! That is stunning! Isn't blocking amazing? It still feels magical every time I do it. She is going to love it.
5 cm isn't going to make any difference. And the scarf will stretch.

The stretch factor is how I justify stopping when I get tired of a project!
BTW, I have blocking wires and am happy to lend them to you next time you have to block.
