Start Where You Are

And I guess where you are, is here. Right?

Start Where You Are
Mystery post-it note. Fence post, Newtown.

I wish the here of today was a there instead though. If you know what I mean.

I had a spectacularly bad night's sleep last night; too hot, too cold, too something. (Ironically after watching a documentary about insomnia and sleep deprivation. This universe of ours, it does love the irony, right?) I've battled sleep problems for years, but I'm pleased to say that my sleep is much better these days and that last night was more of an aberration.

So I'm tired, headachey, dull witted and Captain Grumpy Pants today. I've been waiting all morning for this to pass and for the Blog Muse to whisper in my ear... and waiting... Somewhat unsuccesfully.

What this did make me think of though was this photo I took on the weekend. I don't know what the post-it was referring to, but I thought it kind of made sense on a practical and philosophical level. I can dream all I want to about not being tired, about sitting poolside with Eric Balfour in speedos, about not being at my desk.

But ultimately, the only place we can start is 'here' rather than 'there'. We do get to choose the destination though, and I like that idea.

See, you're feeling better already! :)

It was the thought of Eric Balfour in speedos that did it. See, parts of me are perking up as we speak!

heh heh. Don't get me started!

Oops, too late!

(Dunno if you've been checking your email, but I did send some sort of response.)

What's a Balfour?

Insert bad punchline here_____________.

Contextually, I'm sure you meant "Captain Grumpypants", but my mind wandered to "Captain Gumbypants", because, well, bendy!

I love the photo. I've been mulling a similar point for some time now. I'm sometimes frustrated (saddened?) by where I've gotten myself, based on choices I made way back in my twenties, but there's no sense or satisfaction from crying over that, is there? I'm here. Where next?

And speaking of insomnia, it's 2:42 in the fucking a.m. here in the Northern Hemisphere as I type this. OMG. I just realized that means I should be outside checking out the Perseid meteor shower. I'll report back if it's fabu.

Wherever you go, there you are.

I'll see you when I'm looking at you.

"Be Here Now"

A friend had that on her school folder for several years, and then painted it on a soon-to-be-demolished brick building at my high school on our HSC Muck-up Day in 1976.

No one really had to explain what "Be Here Now" meant, and no one even questioned where the phrase came from, but Google tells me it was the title of a 1971 book on spirituality by someone called Ram Dass.

Of course, what we all really want is Eric Balfour saying "Start here. Now."

Therin, "Be Here Bow" is primarily about mindfulness. In the Buddhist sense of not just being 'in the moment' but giving up delusion and see things as they really are.

Mrpeenee, that would be a good place to start. I like direction.
