The Christmas Meme

I haven't done a meme it ages it seems. I happened upon this Christmas Meme over at freakgirl, and thought I'd give it a shot.

Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper. I get a bit Martha Stewart about gift wrapping I have to say. It's the gay badge I really excelled at.

Real tree or Artificial?
Neither.

When do you put up the tree?
I feel really invalidated by the fact that you aren't listening to me. Neither.

When do you take the tree down?
You know, this is getting a little passive aggressive if you ask me. What, I'm like some reindeer murdering Grinch or something if I don't have a tree?

Do you like eggnog?
Blech. I'm lactose intolerant, and I couldn't face the thought of any sort of Veggnog, or whatever.

Favorite gift received as a child?
The box set of Narnia books by C.S.Lewis.

Do you have a nativity scene?
No, only room for one Mary in my house, and guess who that is.

Hardest person to buy for?
My oldest sister, who has mobility and dexterity issues.

Easiest person to buy for?
Me. It's one of the first gifts I usually get.

Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. Email? Really? People do that? That's a little low energy don't you think?

Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
Crabs, from memory.

Favorite Christmas Movie?
"Miracle on 34th Street" or "It's a Wonderful Life" tie. Closely followed by "The Family Stone" on account of the cute gay couple, Diane Keaton etc.

When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Too late usually.

Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
You know, I don't think I ever have.

Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Fruit mince pies.

Clear lights or colored on the tree?
Screw you, you know!? I mean, really. Get. Over. It. About. The. Tree. You want one Mr It's-Not-A-Christmas-Without-A-Tree, YOU do it.

Favorite Christmas song?
Probably "White Christmas" sung by Bing, oh and anything that isn't on the Boney M Christmas Album.

Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Sadly, travel. I always go to the mountain versus it comes to me. I enjoy it when I'm there, but it adds like $300 to the cost of Christmas for me. (Ouch.)

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Um... Randolph. Boozer? Karen Blitzen? I don't know, whatever.

Angel on the tree top or a star?
I am done talking about this.

Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Morning. Just how impatient are you people?

Most annoying thing about this time of year?
The whole 'Christmas tree guilt trip' apparently.

Favorite ornament theme or color?
::glare::

Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Traditional, you know, the whole English roast dinner experience. With Yorkshire pudding.

What do you want for Christmas this year?
Hmmm. Nice yarn. Book vouchers. And from the realm of the improbable, a new laptop. Hey, a boy can dream, right?

Feel free to chime in in the comments, or let me know if you do your own.

Great answers, TOA!

I was expecting your favourite carol to be "Oh, Christmas Tree". I'm gonna have to do the meme now; you've inspired me!

Regards, the other TOA.

Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper, gift bag just feel a tad lazy for my liking.

Real tree or Artificial?
Neither, but have had both in the past. Prefer artificial because they don’t leave yucky, pointy pine needles in the carpet.

Not before the end of the first week of December, when I have one.

When do you take the tree down?
Any and all decorations are down by twelfth night.

Do you like eggnog?
Eww!

Favourite gift received as a child?
Archie, my ventriloquist doll

Do you have a nativity scene?
Nope.

Hardest person to buy for?
My Dad. What do you get for a man who doesn’t listen to music, watch movies, like clothes or read books…and yes, I’m not kidding.

Easiest person to buy for?
My Mum…anything that sparkles

Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail. Email is firmly in the gift bags category.

Pipe glue

Anything by Slade

Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Stay at home and travel only if I really have too.

Donna, Blitzen, Rudolf, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and I think there are a couple more.

Angel on the tree top or a star?
A star, I’ve never found and angel I like.

Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
One the night before, the rest over the whole of Christmas day. Spread the love I say.

Most annoying thing about this time of year?
People wandering around the shop like farts in trances

Favourite ornament theme or colour?
Not really, but a I like a two tone tree only

Favourite for Christmas dinner?
Full on cooked dinner when it’s cold. BBQ when in Aussie.

What do you want for Christmas this year?
Health and happiness and ohh … a shag would be nice.

My favourite Christmas movie is The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942)--heart-warming and viciously sarcastic at the same time which suits my temperament. And Bette Davis is in it!

OK, so I COULD have chimed in with "The Family Stone" the first few times I saw this meme! I love it lots (for the same reasons as you...plus, the LUMINOUS Claire Danes.....what?....I don't care how she is in person, she GLOWS in this movie and that's all I'm talking about). I've turned it into a holiday tradition around Chez ME.

Pssst! I don't do TREE, either.

Love you.

But what about your tree?

Did I mention I don't have a tree?

Peener, I could send you photos of the wood instead?

TOA, I'll go and check it out, thanks for playing along!

Jodie, ditto thanks for playing along! Fun!

John C, you had me at Bette Davis.

Michael, no tree! Imagine!

FG, thank you (oh, and believe it or not I don't have a tree!).

I could say "Bah Humbug"

U still like the whole roast and yorkshire pudding thingy? In Sydney or Adelaide on 25 Dec? Eeek! Apart from the heat, think of the dead animals!

"Favorite ornament theme or color?" No need to glare; they're not necessarily for a Tree. My favourite was from Tales of the City when Michael gave Brian a gift; "Is that what I think it is?" asks Brian; Mary Anne asks "Oh what is it?" "Ahm, its a decoration" says Brian, "Yes, to hang from your tree" finishes Michael. Ok, had to be there.

Don't mind travelling, but dont want to go back to Jerusalem for xmas again if i have to watch midnight mass from Portugal coz i gant get to Bethleham. Close but no hash joint...

Favourite xmas movie... Hmmm. Is there a Treasure Island Productions "White Christmas" yet?

d) All of the above!

which is in contradiction to the prev statement, which means the Mary is actually quite contrary

The Other Andrew said...

Contrary Mary? Who dear?, me dear?, no dear! How very dare you!

(Yes, I've watched too much Catherine Tate recently. Am I bovvered?...)

So after all that, are you gonna hang anything on your Christmas tree or not?? ;)

My favourite Christmas movie is Gremlins. I always loved that scene where they sing Christmas carols.

And who remembers Santa Claus Conquers The Martians? Andrew probably does because Channel 7 in Adelaide used to play it every Christmas without fail.

I had a go at doing the Christmas meme on my blog and included some YouTube clips from the two movies.
