Battered And Bruised

My fears came to fruition today, in a swifter and more brutal way than I anticipated, and just 2 weeks away from the end of my 6 month probation period I was fired. Told I could leave immediately and would only be getting the bare required pay out of a week's wages under the probation terms. This is the first time I have ever been let go from a workplace, in the past I have always been the one to resign.

I'm feeling much more hurt by the whole experience than I would have thought, and I think it's the callousness and coldness of the act that has really gotten to me. Aside from the practicalities of not having money saved, of having rent and bills to pay, and only a small amount of money coming my way, it's that feeling of being discarded that I haven't encountered before. I rang my friend Judy immediately after, trying not to burst into tears in the middle of the street, and like a wise and good friend she administered dinner, gin & tonics and laughter. It sure helped.

Tomorrow is a new day, and on the upside I don't have to get up early for it.

Yay to the gin'n'tonix but boo to the rest of the day. That is really quite a shock from here as well.

Big hugs and let us know if you need anything!

Having been in the same position on two separate occasions, one of which happened when I walked into the office first thing in the morning (and walked out about two minutes later), I can totally sympathise.

And there really isn't anything anybody can say to you... so Judy was wise in her application of dinner and gin.

I simply send you big hugs!

What a bunch of assholes. G & T & Dinner sounds like a great idea.

Tomorrow's another day - onwards and upwards and leave them in your dust!

Ugh...that's terrible. Hope you find something better soon. Having friends around is a big plus.

Sorry that's happened - and so craply. Love and yarn fumes with really GOOD G&T sent through the ether from England.
Take care.

Bastardy bastards!

I can't promise gin, but I can do tea and sympathy. Lunch?

Oh, and BTW, I used to work for a company that did finance for new cars, and I came into contact with a lot of these "people", and I can't say I am surprised at such callous treatment. You deserve better.

Blame the "GFC". Very bad form in any case. Knowing your nefarious and many-headed talents you will back somewhere better in no time. Perhaps now's the time to start that Internet shopfront for all things crafty?

Evana and I are off to trivia with The Papacy (that's John and Paul) at some pub in Surry Hills tonight if you feel like getting out and about. How about I commission a scarf so you can afford to buy a drink. And you may call me Le Patron!

Sorry to hear this Andrew, you deserve much better. Hugs.

I have been there too, and it hit me at a time when I was already pretty down. Right after that I got some temp work and every company I worked for loved me! Best cure for the thing.

Based on your track record, this sounds like just a Bad Apple Employer. You'll find something else soon where you're appreciated, I'm sure.

Oh crap. Really sorry to hear this - it's really nasty. I'm in the job hunt myself at the moment and I know exactly the kind of emotional roller coaster that means. Still, I think maybe the universe is going to give you a bit of space to get well in, and then some new opportunities. And in the meantime, how about we meet up for coffee and cake (I'm buying) and catch up while we both have the chance before we're both snapped up by the job market. I'll give you a call.

oh no! i get too busy to check in for a few days and this happens! I'm so sorry. hope to see you soon and commiserate in person.

Thankfully I have never been in this position but I imagine I too would feel hurt and bewilderment if summarily sacked.

It is good that you adopted a positive outlook rather than dwelling only on the the negatives.

All the best for your future endeavours.

I am saddened to learn of this news, Andrew. It is the callous treatment that hurts the most for sure.

I am weeks away from losing my job; the ad agency is surely on the way out and I feel very much on the bridge of the Titanic.

With your skills and charm you'll bounce back; I'll keep good thoughts coming your way!
