This One Is Goes Out To My Friend James O'Brien

James is one of the world's great Swede-o-philes. In fact, as I write this he'll be sitting down to his weekly Swedish lesson. Don't get me wrong, I admire the Swedes. I buy their furniture. I appreciate their massage. I think they do a natty line in pop music.

But there is a line I draw that others cross.

Anyhoo. The brief yet classic "Swedish Chemist" sketch from Alas Smith & Jones. This sketch has been a long running part of the zeitgeist amongst one group of my friends for as long as I care to remember. (Along with other gems such as the Licky Licky Bumsex Song.) Comedy gold, just the mention of "Ball? Or aerosol?" is enough to set us off.

I love that old chestnut. I now have the urge to check out Alas Smith and Jones on you tube....

Wow James and Grant just got massively patronised by Andrew. And so did the whole of Sweden.

Well I guess just because learning Swedish is something special and important to those guys doesn't mean you can't rip them to shreds.

Hmmm....now back to surfing porn.

I don't feel patronised.... (by you...)

I think it might be "Not the Nine O'Clock News" rather than Alas Smith & Jones, but yes a classic nonetheless.

More than once I have been caught in a weekend Youtube vortex with "Not the Nine O'Clock News" and "Alas Smith & Jones" (ahh, the Stanley Rogers sketch...). Throw in some Lily Savage (esp.on Parky) and I could be lost for days.

is a new one to me, I have never heard it before.

Graeme, of course you are entitled to your opinion but you have misread my intention of this entirely. It was supposed to amuse James, which apparently it did. I can't speak for Grant, but then I would have hoped that he found it amusing also.

Cracks me up every time. Was making a salad and picked up a 'bool' Rob answered in kind. I dropped everything to Youtube it.

JudgeG site is full off tolerance as you can see... I don't even have children and I find it horribly patronizing and wankerish.

"Makes me think there need to be designated areas around the city that are marked: ‘NO BREEDERS! NO SPROGS!’ So the rest of us can just go about our business and our lives in peace."

Unless he is being 'funny' then ho ho

I'm used to people finding my accent funny...its not that bad.

Coz, JudgeG (aka Graeme) is a friend of mine, so even though I was hurt by his reaction I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He does hold strong opinions, and that's something we are all used to. I was stung by how he misinterpreted what I was trying to do though. So let's not attack him.

"Horribly patronising and wankerish"?

Excellent. I feel my writing has hit the correct note then.

PS: Andrew - I am sorry you were 'terribly stung' but doesn't it feel weird to have a blog where you just write nice things and people write back nice things and everything is so terribly polite and sweet?

Isn't it good to have a bit of different reaction sometimes? Something that shows your writing gets all sorts of people reacting in all sorts of ways?

Didn't it even feel good to fantasize about punching me in the face after you read my comment?

I bet Cozalcoatl would love to punch me in the head from time to time ;-)

And, instead of feeling guilty, isn't it great to sometimes go out, get foamy in underwear, get drunk, sleep around, be flavour of the month, make a few demands and just do what you want to do?

No-one can be Mother Theresa all the time. Sometimes it's actually good to be Alexis Carrington Colby Morel Dexter.

And I should know, just ask Cozalcoatl!

PPS: Still think you should visit Sweden in the summer - you'd change your view ;-p

Sorry Andrew.

I still love the sketch.

You know how many times I had to practice spelling "wankerish" seemed a shame to waste it.

JudgeG Nah no need or want to punch you.
I have the Tomb with my bag and gym. No interest in hitting real people but have to say its very satisfying to punch something.

Too young (ish) for Dynasty...had to wiki it to get the reference.
